Content Guidelines
General Guidelines
FindNowHub exists to connect people with great local businesses across Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. Not everyone will agree all the time, but we expect everyone who uses the platform to treat each other, and the site, with honesty and respect. These general guidelines set the tone for every contribution; the additional guidelines below cover specific types of content.
- Relevance: Keep your contributions on topic. A review should describe your experience as a customer. It isn't the place for political views, a business's employment practices, unusual one-off events or anything else unrelated to the service you received. Post each review only on the page for the exact location you visited or contacted, and focus on what happened there.
- Inappropriate content: Expressive language and images are welcome, but threats, harassment, lewd content, hate speech and any other form of bigotry are not.
- Conflicts of interest: Everything you post should be honest and impartial. Don't review your own business or employer, businesses owned by friends or family, competitors or peers in your industry, or members of your business network. Businesses must never ask customers to write reviews.
- Privacy: Respect other people's privacy. Don't share close-up photos or videos of other customers without their permission, and don't use people's full names unless they are widely known by them.
- Promotional content: Keep promotions out of reviews, photos and profiles. Businesses can share offers and updates through their free Business Account, which keeps FindNowHub useful for customers rather than crowded with commercial noise.
- Post your own content: Only share work that is yours. Write your own reviews, share only photos and videos you took yourself, and don't copy content from other people or businesses. Don't use third-party AI tools or chatbots to write, draft or rewrite reviews or any other contribution.
Additional Guidelines
The most helpful reviews are personal and specific. They tell the story of your visit in detail and leave other customers with a useful tip or two. Keep these points in mind:
- Personal experience: Describe what happened to you, not what you heard from a partner or colleague, read in the news or saw on social media. Tell your own story and avoid sweeping generalisations or unsupported accusations.
- Accuracy: Check that your facts are right. You're free to share your opinion, but don't exaggerate or misrepresent what happened. FindNowHub doesn't take sides in factual disputes, so be ready to stand behind what you write.
- Demanding payment: Reviews exist to inform the community. Never threaten to post a negative review, or offer to remove one, in exchange for payment or any other benefit from a business.
- Review updates and repeated posts: Update a review only when you've had a new experience with the same business. To add something about your original visit, edit the review within 30 days of posting it. Don't post about the same experience more than once, and don't copy the same review onto several business pages.
Photos and videos should be relevant to the business and show what a typical customer would see: the premises, the products and the services on offer. Businesses should use them to show what makes them stand out. Also remember:
- Keep it relevant to everyone: Images of a personal, one-off moment that won't help other customers, such as a receipt or a message thread with the business, may be removed from the business's gallery. They can still appear alongside your review.
- Keep it clean: No images of violence, drug use, nudity, near-nudity or suggestive behaviour, even if they accurately show a business's products or services.
- Keep it friendly: Don't use photos or videos to attack or belittle anyone. If you have a point to make, make it in a review, a direct message or a public response.
Let people know who you are. Readers trust reviews from people they can get to know, not from empty profiles or ones filled with inappropriate content.
- User profiles: Trust and transparency matter to us, so anonymous accounts that disrupt the community are dealt with more firmly than people who stand behind their words. Tell others a little about yourself, keep it relevant, and don't use your profile to attack competitors, reviewers or FindNowHub. Profiles stuffed with keywords, special offers or promotions will be cleaned up, and the account may be closed.
- Consumer messaging: Messaging helps you stay in touch with other members. Don't use it to harass anyone or send inappropriate content, and remember that consumer accounts are for personal, non-commercial use only.
- Business messaging: Businesses should contact reviewers through their free Business Account. A private message is often the best way to resolve a complaint, and businesses can also reply publicly to a review. Business representatives should use a clear profile photo so customers know who they're talking to. Never use messages or public replies to make personal attacks or to offer anything in return for changing a review.
- Ask the Community: Questions and answers about a business help everyone, so use them responsibly. Ask questions that matter to other customers, avoid loaded questions or assumptions, and keep the tone civil. If you have nothing useful to add, it's fine not to answer. Clear questions with enough detail get the best answers.
